Templo Kuchilkan is founded on the principles of reestablishing and affirming our native traditions, beliefs, and spiritual heritage.

13.0.2.14.5
13.0.2.14.5 (Sept. 22, 2015)

Our temple was founded during the celebration of the fall equinox of 2015 on 13.0.2.14.5 (Sept 22, 2015). The day was 8 Serpent.

A sacred fire is lit every 20 days on the day of the day of the serpent and a ceremony is held as a way to connect with our community and reinforce our commitment to the restoration and spreading of our ancestors wisdom. We aim to bring forth a new renaissance of enlightenment that incorporates ancient native American wisdom into the lives of those of us who are the result of centuries of colonialism, genocide, brain washing, and cultural appropriation.

While our regular ceremony is held on the day of the Kan, it is our hope and aspiration that at some point in the near future a fire can be lit in honor of each and everyone of the Kin, here at the temple. It is also our hope that others will follow in our footsteps and raise temples in honor of the remaining 19 Kin. The spark has been lit. It is now up to us to help spread the fire.

Gatherings usually begins around 7:00 PM. Those wishing to take part in the building of the altar, decoration, assembling the framework may arrive at this time and begin. The fire is lit 8PM and closes around 10pm. Attendees are allowed to stay later and participate in prayer, song, danza, camp out, and take part in communal activities.

We understand that because this day doesn’t always land on a predictable day of the Gregorian calendar week,  that this may not be a day in which many members of the community may be able to attend. We are working on establishing a weekly day of observance.

Because of concerns with Covid we ask that members practice social distancing, and practice recommended safety and hygiene protocols. Please do not take offence if other attendees do not take part in physical contact such as hand shaking, hugging, or sharing of food and drink.
